About last week..
For its 20th anniversary, Futurpreneur Canada saw big. They organized a 36 hours event with entrepreneurs all over Canada, their partners and mentors. Our CEO, Celine, had the chance to go there and meet awesome people, last week. We wanted to give you a hint of what she’s discovered and learned while in Toronto.
With our entrepreneurs friends from Montreal, Mélanie from Rachel’s box, Phil and Paul from BugBites and Xavier from Smarthalo, Celine got to meet a bunch of inspiring entrepreneurs from all over Canada. It was a great experience to discuss and help each other out with different startup challenges.
Celine’s crush was on a sustainable start-up from Vancouver: Growing City. They help businesses to bring composting and recycling in their office. Using their services, like educational tools and monthly reports, you can reduce by 50 percent or more your office’s waste while making a positive impact. It’s always pleasing to find companies that share the same vision and philosophy as ours, as well as meeting interesting people like Lisa von Sturmer, their founder.
Celine had the chance to be on a Women’s entrepreneurs panel with great ladies : Lisa (Growing City), Chivon (Secrets of a side hustler), and Barbara(executive airways grooming). They discussed about their entrepreneur’s life: accessing to capital, facing challenges, taking decision and so on. All moderated by a wonderful and successful woman: Janice McDonald (Beaconagency). She gave inspiring advice and one that we will remember in our everyday life: be comfortable to be uncomfortable.
Then we assisted to different workshop. Darrell Keezer, founder of Candybox Marketing, gave a refreshing workshop on making customer out of social media and not noise. He also gave great advice on having content to create a conversation in order to facilitate a relationship and then create revenue. Later, he assigned everyone in the room a homework to do: use your website on your phone and see how userfriendly it is because more and more people purchase on phones.
Bottomline, meeting new and determined people as well as assisting to creative presentations only reinforced our will to make our startup succeed and to make a positive impact on our community.
New city, new clients
While in Toronto, we booked some meeting with new clients and discovered different districts. We loved Kensington market for its diversity and concerts in the street! Even though Celine went there to learn, she came back with a new interest for the Toronto area market. We’ll see where this leads us, but the whole team is excited about new ventures in Ontario!
