Fairmont hotels have positioned themselves as forward-thinking leaders in the hospitality industry, prioritizing the integration of sustainable development into the DNA of their hotels. Working with employees, customers, partners and local communities, Fairmont is committed to positive innovation, making their hotel experiences good for the planet, as well as the people on it.
The positive impacts of our products
Economic spinoffs – Here at Kotmo, one of our most important commitments and values is to engage with our local community and design sustainable, local products using responsibly sourced materials. For the creation of our domino game, we worked with a number of local entrepreneurs, one of them being the Montreal designers at AllStudio. The cutting, sanding and engraving of both the wood and the fabric bag was entirely done in their studio in Montreal, as well as our minimal-waste packaging. In total, 5 local businesses were involved in the creation process for this product.
Environmental impacts – Prioritizing responsible supply chains is one of our key values. The wood used to create each piece for this project has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which guarantees sourcing from responsibly managed forests and supply chains. All manufacturers are also located in Montreal, making all production local. The items only traveled within the country, from our Quebec office to your hotels – which is an average of only 2 280 km. This means little greenhouse gas was produced overall — that’s a win for the company, and the environment.
Social benefits – By handing out a locally made product, Fairmont is putting the spotlight on local products and showing off the creativity of Canadian designers. The company is therefore positioning itself to promote local talent, supporting local communities and the national economy.
Fairmont – Forward-Thinking Leaders
By choosing a Canadian supplier, Fairmont hotels are creating visible positive impacts: encouraging local creativity and entrepreneurs, minimizing environmental impacts and supporting jobs in the country. This strategy is in line the Planet 21 mission and overall vision of integrating sustainable development practices into the world of hospitality.
