A unique custom-made gift box
The InterContinental Montreal was looking for a unique gift to give to their customers. Inspired by our gift boxes, we worked with the team to design a customized box based on the theme of food. The team chose our Living Idea – a small watercress plant in a concrete pot. We also included in the box custom-made wooden salad spoons and a small booklet of authentic recipes from Chef Matthieu Saulnier – Executive Chef of The InterContinental Montreal’s restaurant.
The positive impacts of locally-made product
Economic spinoffs – One of our most important commitments and values is to design local products. For this project, we worked with the Montreal designers of AllStudio, among others. The wood and the concrete were purchased from a local manufacturer. The cutting, production and engraving are done internally in our studio in Montreal. That means 6 local businesses were involved in the creation process for this unique product.
Environmental impacts – As we mentioned, the manufacturers are located in Montreal and the production is local. Therefore the gifts only traveled on the island of Montreal before arriving at The InterContinental Montreal – meaning less than 20 miles. This means not much greenhouse gas was produced overall — that’s a win for the hotel!
Social benefits – By handing out a locally made gift, The InterContinental Montreal is putting the spotlight on local products and showing off the creativity of Canadian designers. The InterContinental Montreal is therefore positioning itself to promote local talent.
InterContinental Montreal – A role model for our Ecoleaders
The InterContinental Montreal can see the impact it makes by choosing a local supplier: it encourages local creativity, minimizes environmental impacts and supports jobs in the country. This strategy is in line with its mission and overall vision.
